About the Library
The Central Library of Shillong Medical College is an integral part of the institution, dedicated to supporting excellence in medical education, research, and patient care. The library serves as a knowledge center for students, faculty members, researchers, and healthcare professionals by providing access to high-quality academic and scientific resources.
The library has a rich collection of over 8,552 books, including textbooks, reference books. The library also subscribes to newspapers, magazines, and electronic resources to keep users updated with the latest developments in healthcare and research. The journal subscription is ongoing, ensuring continuous access to the latest research and publications.
The library is fully automated with KOHA Library Management Software, ensuring efficient circulation, cataloguing, and user-friendly access to library resources through the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) system. The library is also equipped with full internet access facilities to support digital learning and online research activities.
To enhance the learning experience, the library also provides:
- Virtual Learning Section for accessing e-resources and online academic content.
- Reprography Section for photocopying, printing, and document support services for users.
- 24×7 Reading Area to facilitate uninterrupted study and academic preparation.
- Spacious reading areas with a peaceful and student-friendly environment..
The Central Library continuously strives to provide modern information services and resources that promote academic excellence, lifelong learning, and evidence-based medical education.
General Rules
Entry is permitted only with a valid Shillong Medical College ID card.
The Central Library is a silent study zone. Users must maintain silence at all times.
Use of mobile phones, loud conversations, or disruptive behavior is strictly prohibited inside the library.
Smoking, eating, and drinking (except water) are strictly prohibited inside.
Personal belongings must be kept in the designated storage area; the library is not responsible for lost items.
Users must follow instructions given by library staff.
Respect library staff and fellow users.
The library and reading room are monitored 24/7 by CCTV cameras to ensure a safe and secure environment for all users.
Library Membership
Eligibility
Library membership is available to:
- All enrolled students of Shillong Medical College
- Teaching and non-teaching staff
- Visiting faculty and researchers (upon request)
Registration
Members must complete the registration process with a valid institutional ID. A membership form is available for new users.
