Dentistry Department

The Department of Dentistry provides comprehensive education and clinical training in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral and dental diseases. Students gain hands-on experience in various specialties including conservative dentistry, oral surgery, prosthodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry. With well-equipped dental clinics and modern diagnostic tools, the department emphasizes patient-centered care, oral hygiene awareness, and the development of technical skills essential for delivering effective dental treatment.

Our Mission

  • Department Commitment: The Department of Dentistry is committed to diagnosing, treating, and preventing not only dental diseases but also a wide range of oral and maxillofacial disorders. Our mission is to provide comprehensive oral health care that meets the needs of every patient, with a special focus on early detection and prevention of pre-cancerous conditions such as:
    • Leukoplakia
    • Oral Submucous Fibrosis
    • Oral Lichen Planus
    • Tobacco Pouch Keratosis
  • Oral Cancer Awareness: As per the ICMR-NCDIR report on Meghalaya, tobacco-induced oral cancer is the second leading tobacco-related cancer after oropharyngeal cancer. Our department strives to reduce this burden through awareness, prevention, and timely intervention.
  • Tobacco Cessation Centre: We run a dedicated Tobacco Cessation Centre, empowering patients to overcome tobacco addiction and offering therapy to reduce oral cancer risk.

  • Promote oral cancer prevention through community outreach and clinical programs.
  • Integrate and strengthen State and National Oral Health Programs to reach underserved populations.
  • Provide comprehensive dental services including extractions, oral prophylaxis, tooth restoration, root canal therapy, and prosthodontic rehabilitation (dentures).
  • Nurture a culture of preventive dentistry while maintaining excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
